"I'm going to make this pencil disappear..."
I've seen The Dark Knight twice already in the past day, and I want to see it again. I won't write a legitimate review because 1. I'm lazy and 2. It's all been said already. Brilliant, 10/10, not only the best superhero movie ever but one of the best movies of the year.
And no, it's not because of Batman. Not that Bale is a bad actor, but Ledger and Eckhart steal the fucking show. Eckhart to a lesser extent, though, but still, his portrayal of Two-Face is everything that I wanted it to be.
But the real star of the movie is The Joker. And although it's also been said literally dozens of times, Ledger as the Joker is unfuckingbelievable. Everything that I wanted the Joker to be, he was. I've always hated Nicholson's Joker because the Joker should not be funny. He shouldn't tell jokes. He thinks he's funny, but he's sick. So even before I saw TDK, I wanted him to just gut someone while laughing. And although I didn't see that, I did get "Why so serious?", so I'm set.
He absolutely disappears into the role. I now can guess why Ledger began taking pills and why he eventually overdosed-- he must have actually become insane to play this role. He's that good in it.
I'm definitely going to see it for a third time, next week. Until then, I'm content with buying the "Why so serious?" poster and framing it to put in my room. It's literally the least I can do to pay homage to one of the best performances I've ever seen.
"How about a magic trick?..."
